Cynthia has been singing and playing piano as long as she can remember. Born the child of a professional voice/piano teacher, she literally learned to spell her name to the tune of “Peter Cottontail,” and then her piano lessons began at the age of five!
Her background also includes theatrical and musical training at California State University at Chico and Brigham Young University, as well as extensive experience in little theater.
Continuing her musical education privately with some of the best coaches in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cynthia then began to perform professionally at piano bars. This served as a training ground in all popular styles.
After expanding into nightclub performances, she went on to receive top votes for nomination as “Outstanding Female Nightclub Vocalist” and “Outstanding Piano Entertainer” by the San Francisco Council on Entertainment.
Ms. Bythell also received numerous awards from the Music City Song Festival National Vocal Competition and National Lyric Competition, placed among the top ten in the Billboard Songwriting Contest, and the Northern California Songwriters’ Association gave her “Best Song” and “Best Performance.” In fact, the first song she ever wrote was recorded and released by the nationally acclaimed Spinners on their Down to Business CD.
Cynthia segued from solo performances into working with jazz bands. Now with six albums, published songs, numerous national and local awards and decades of professional experience to her credit, Cynthia Bythell continues to perform throughout the Bay Area and beyond. She is also currently writing an inspirational album, and accepting bookings from churches, and other groups interested in an uplifting musical message.
Wanting to pass along her musical expertise, she began offering private voice and piano instruction in 1991. Cynthia truly enjoys working with all types of students, from those who are just curious about exploring music to serious working professionals with careers in the music industry.
