Popular San Francisco Bay Area vocalist Cynthia Bythell brings an innovative approach to vocals, treating her voice as an instrument to fully express her personality. She is truly a vibrant and engaging performer, well-known for her appearances in the area’s most prestigious nightclubs. The press raves about Bythell’s talent, range, and personality which serve to reflect the fun and playful attitude of her material, and audiences compare her singing to the earlier vocals of the late great Ella Fitzgerald!
Together, Cynthia and her jazz band breathe new life into jazz standards from the 20’s, 30’s, swing and bebop eras and move easily through some classic latin rhythms. Their past credits are highlighted by regular performances at The Top of the Mark, Enrico’s Supper Club, The Claremont Resort’s sophisticated Terrace Lounge, and aboard the S.F. Spirit for Champagne Brunch Cruises on the bay.
In recent years, the group has chosen to focus on private events: Cynthia shines in intimate surroundings, magnifies herself for large audiences, and yet is comfortable providing background music. Her musicians are equally versatile, providing everything from solo piano and instrumental tunes to lively, danceable music. The group can play as a quartet, trio, or duo plus vocal and has proven to be ideal for wedding receptions, parties, and all types of special events.
Cynthia Bythell also enjoys working as a freelance vocalist with other popular jazz groups. Such performances include shows with the Magnolia Jazz Band, New Bop City, and the Jerome Steinkholer Trio.
