I’m so grateful for my morning gratitude practice. It makes me happy, and gets my day off to a good start. First, I write a list of things I appreciate about yesterday, making sure to put a positive spin on any thing that didn’t seem so great at the time. (If I woke up grumpy, things are usually looking better now!) Then I jot down everything I’ve loved so far today, and all I’m looking forward to doing for the rest of the day. (Nothing like planning to have a nice day!) Next come eight more wonderful things that are constant in my life, like good health, a roof over my head, and a lasting relationship. (Feeling blissed by this time for sure!) Now for the grand finale: Number eleven is something currently happening in my life that feels truly special. At the moment, it’s performing last night for a benefit called Let’s Raise The Roof, where several faiths came together to raise money to help First Congregational Church Berkeley to recover from a big fire. It was a really fun and inspirational evening, and it’s all going to happen again on Sun. Dec. 18, 6:00 p.m., Lake Park Methodist Church, 281 Santa Clara Ave., Oakland. Ticket donation is $25/one or $20/two or more. Info/Questions: roymosley@comcast.net (415) 742-0538

Singin’ the Recital Blues
ByCynthiaEach Spring is a battle to avoid feeling stressed behind the upcoming formal recital in May. While it is true that my chill skill continues to increase in measure with each passing year, I apparently still have not achieved victory. It seems the desire for each student to experience a successful performance overwhelms my ability to…
2020 Christmas
ByCynthia‘Twas three weeks before Christmas and all through our house, not a person was stirring, but me and my spouse. Two stockings were hung by the chimney with care; Too bad no one would be there to share. Ev’ry night we rested all snug in our bed, while visions of vaccines danced in our heads. …
Time
ByCynthiaWhoa! 2018. Seriously? Sometimes it feels like I’m being pole vaulted through time. There’s never enough of it. The older I get the more important it feels not to fritter any of it away. Precious stuff it is, and easy to get stressed out trying to squeeze in everything I want to do. Funny thing…
Creative Adventure
ByCynthiaPhotos of Mom & Dad are proudly displayed on my mantel in honor of their special days. I like to believe they’re watching over me, and trying to help from the other side. Hopefully they feel as proud of me as I felt when “my” kids played their pieces at the Annual Spring Recital last month. My…
Creative Space
ByCynthiaIt’s that time of the year when lesson cancellations run rampant. Summer vacations definitely take their toll on my teaching income. That’s o.k., life is full of trade-offs. When business is overwhelming, there’s lots of money. But, if it slows down to a dull roar, there’s more personal time. When I was young, I worried if things were slow, then complained that…
May Blessings
ByCynthiaIt’s time to put Mom & Dad’s photos up on the mantel again in accordance with my yearly tradition. When I was little, we had a different custom. May 1st meant dancing around the Maypole, weaving brightly colored streamers into a beautiful pattern, and handing out May Baskets full of flowers. It was a fun…
