Hardly ever (almost never) get out to hear live music because I’m too busy making my own. It’s no secret that I have a deep passion for writing songs, recording, and singing professionally on stage. For some time now, I’ve been performing/recording inspirational originals. Suddenly, and out of nowhere, the jazz bug has bitten me again. I even booked a show at Café Leila in Berkeley. Okay then, had to go check out Leila’s. It’s a comfy, intimate place with friendly staff and excellent food. Best of all? I’d forgotten how much I enjoy live music, and being part of a happy crowd. Hope you’ll feel the same way when you come to see CYNTHIA BYTHELL & THE DIGGIN’ THE DOWNSIZE DUO REUNION SHOW, AUGUST 16 from 6:30 to 9:30 (no cover) at CAFE LEILA in BERKELEY (+1 (510) 525-7544) We’re going to have a lot of fun celebrating the release of our never before released album. You’ll love master guitarist Duncan James with groovin’ upright bassist Richard Saunders, and the light mix of jazz standards I’ll be singing. And, of course, the performance will include improvised solos by the guys and a bit of scat singing too. Looking forward to meeting you, and setting my jazz self loose again! (The album, Diggin’ The Downsize, is available now on CD Baby and Amazon. It’s a live session recorded in the studio during the time we worked a long run on The San Francisco Bay Champagne Brunch Cruise.)

Season of Joy

Technology and Myself
ByCynthiaIt’s been a stormy relationship. There was no natural attraction, but society kept throwing us together. However, through my angry tantrums, begging, pleading, and occasional emotional meltdowns, Technology remained steadfast. Our relationship is definitely high maintenance, and for many years I carried deep resentment for the way it sucked up my time, energy, and money. …
Singin’ the Recital Blues
ByCynthiaEach Spring is a battle to avoid feeling stressed behind the upcoming formal recital in May. While it is true that my chill skill continues to increase in measure with each passing year, I apparently still have not achieved victory. It seems the desire for each student to experience a successful performance overwhelms my ability to…
Loving Aspirations

As always, I’m deeply grateful for my loving partner of multiple decades, loving parents who live on in my heart, and so many loving friends and business relationships. This year I’m looking beyond personal relationships at the bigger picture. Yep, I’m thinking really BIG! Here goes: I aspire to love each moment. (That…
April Fool’s Day
ByCynthiaAlthough there are many albums to my credit, this will be the first one that is ALL original. For awhile now, inspirational songs have been falling down on me like a soft spring rain. At this point, I have more than enough to make an album. I feel like a giddy child romping in a…
Time
ByCynthiaWhoa! 2018. Seriously? Sometimes it feels like I’m being pole vaulted through time. There’s never enough of it. The older I get the more important it feels not to fritter any of it away. Precious stuff it is, and easy to get stressed out trying to squeeze in everything I want to do. Funny thing…
