Adventures in music continue as my inspirational originals album moves along. Amidst recording sessions, mix-downs have begun. And next week, I’ll be turning over a finished piano/vocal to the arranger. Can’t wait to hear what he does with it… So Fun! Simultaneously, I’ve been editing the avalanche of videos generated by the jazz gig at Café Leila near the end of summer. It’s gratifying to see my work instead of just hearing it, although one has to be brave to watch themselves singing on stage. Never mind what I see, my videos are getting a huge response on Facebook and Instagram…. So Fun! Now, as if I wasn’t already having enough fun, Leila’s called and wants me back. The first show felt really good. It was wonderful to return to jazz again after a lengthy break to write the inspirational album, but I had worried about how rusty my vocals might be. Apparently singing jazz is like riding a bike: You never forget. We’re booked again for Café Leila in Berkeley on Sat. Nov. 2 from 6:30 to 9pm (no cover), with Keith Saunders on Keys, and Richard Saunders on Upright Bass. Since It’s Fall and I’m Havin’ a Ball, maybe I should try Autumn Leaves as a waltz… You guessed it: So Fun!

ByCynthiaPhotos of Mom & Dad are proudly displayed on my mantel in honor of their special days. I like to believe they’re watching over me, and trying to help from the other side. Dreaming Big
ByCynthiaI’ve been hit with a sudden urge to audition for America’s Got Talent. Apparently the desire to share my inspirational originals with the world at large is filling me with some serious chutzpah. So, it’s time to sit at the piano for hours, somehow cutting my precious jewels down to 90 second finely facetted gems…
“The Man With The Million Dollar Smile”
ByCynthiaThat’s what the townspeople called my Dad. I loved his huge toothy smile. He loved to play with my brothers and me, and he loved my Mom. I remember my parents dancing in the kitchen, holding hands, and sharing little kisses. Yes indeed, Dad was a true family man. My father grew up in poverty,…
Couldn’t Wish for More
ByCynthiaAs it turns out, the audition video for America’s Got Talent can now be 2 to 3 minutes instead of the previous 90 seconds. (I never did figure out how I was going to do the “minute and a half thing” without hacking my precious original to death!) Once the song could be a little longer, it was…
Thinking of Dad
ByCynthiaThe folks in town called my Dad “the man with the million dollar smile”. H e was a family man who enjoyed playing with us kids, and I loved riding around on his shoulders. Even though he was always home when he wasn’t at work, I never really got to know him as a person…
Songwriting
ByCynthiaIt’s a little hard to write my note this month because it seems like I should be writing about my Dad. But instead, I’m busy writing songs. If I could pick one thing that I like to do the most, it would be songwriting. Time stops, the world fades away, and I am one with…
